Part 2: Parents of children/teens
Children and teens with ADHD recurrently grapple with following daily routines and completing various short and long-term tasks, which impede their organizational skills, time-management skills, and working memory. They also struggle to manage overwhelming emotions and conflicting anxious thoughts, which often leads them to be immersed in their inner critic.
Their inner critic is often triggered by chronic stress, which in turn results in a compulsive destructive thinking and behaviour cycle. This vicious cycle can interfere with their daily functioning in a way that can be very difficult for them to be “happy” and to enjoy the “prime” years of their life.
Evidence-based treatments and tools, such as emotion regulation skills training, thought stopping, and deep breathing has been well proven in the psychotherapy scientific literature to maximize the quality of life for children and teens during their prime years.
